Overview of the Value Change Initiative Approach and Structure
What are the challenges VCI approach is addressing?
Complexity in Value Chains
- The intrinsic nature of Value Chains and their complexity;
- Achieving full traceability for VC interventions is very hard and often as good as impossible due to complex, global, and dynamic value chains;
- Current guidance needs to be specified to sector-specific contexts.
Enabling collaboration
- In Value Chains, there is a need for joint action and co-investment;
- Working only with those suppliers to which full traceability already exists does not foster the scaling of VC interventions (= value chain decarbonization) needed.
Intervention reporting
- There is no clear guidance on how to include intervention results into inventories;
- Implementation of value chain interventions poses numerous questions.
The Value Change Initiative Structure
The Value Change Initiative (VCI) structure is typically organized to facilitate collaboration, coordination, and effective action among its participants. The structure is designed to ensure that the initiative can drive systemic change across entire value chains, focusing on sustainability and reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.
