IDD Key Topics I
Welcome to the lesson on IDD Key Topics I and II, a fundamental part of the Capacity Building phase for understanding value chain interventions in SustainCERT. In this module, we will focus on the Intervention Design Document (IDD)— a critical tool in managing Scope 3 emissions within an organization’s value chain.
The IDD serves as a blueprint, outlining the design and implementation of interventions aimed at reducing greenhouse gas emissions. It details everything from new technologies and practices to funding strategies, while also ensuring alignment across all stakeholders on the goals, methods, and expected outcomes of the intervention. In addition, it provides a structured framework for validation and verification, ensuring that these interventions are measurable and adhere to recognized standards such as, but not limited to; the Greenhouse Gas Protocol.
Given its importance, we’ve divided the IDD into individual topics that we will now explore in depth. Each section of this lesson will focus on a specific aspect of the IDD, guiding you through the critical components required to execute interventions. This includes how the document serves as both a roadmap for action and as official documentation for audits, ensuring transparency, accountability, and measurable impact in reducing Scope 3 emissions.
Let’s now dive into each part of the IDD to better understand its structure and purpose.
*SustainCERT uses the IDD as part of its broader service offering to help organizations meet their goals through credible interventions.
